Sentence and summary completion
Fill gaps with words from the passage or from a box. Grammar, word limits and paraphrase decide the answer.
বাংলায় সারাংশ (Bangla summary)
Passage থেকে বা বাক্স থেকে শব্দ নিয়ে শূন্যস্থান পূরণ করুন। ব্যাকরণ, শব্দসীমা ও paraphrase উত্তর ঠিক করে।
By the end of this lesson you can
- Use grammar to predict the missing word
- Copy words exactly from the passage within the word limit
- Choose from a word box when one is given
Two versions of the task
In one version you take words from the passage, with a limit such as NO MORE THAN TWO WORDS. In the other you choose from a box of words or phrases, which usually include extra options that fit grammatically but not in meaning.
Answers usually follow the order of the passage. A summary often covers one or two paragraphs, so find where the summary starts before filling gaps.
Grammar first
Read the words around the gap. After "a" or "an" you need a singular noun phrase; after "to" you may need a verb; after "more" you may need an adjective or a noun. Check singular and plural against the passage.
Copy the word exactly as it appears. Changing "irrigation" to "irrigate" makes the answer wrong.
Completing a sentence
Passage: "Early settlers relied on terraces to stop soil being washed away by heavy rain."
Sentence: Terraces protected the land from ______. (ONE WORD ONLY)
Answer: rain. "Soil" is protected, not the cause.
Guided practice
