20 minutesAdvancedLesson 8 of 8
বাংলায় সারাংশ (Bangla summary)

প্রশ্নটি passage-এর কোন অংশ নিয়ে তা খুঁজুন, তারপর প্রতিটি বিকল্প যাচাই করুন। সঠিক উত্তর সম্পূর্ণভাবে সমর্থিত।

By the end of this lesson you can

  • Locate the relevant section using the stem
  • Reject options that are partly true or too extreme
  • Answer questions about the writer's purpose

Every word of the right option is supported

Wrong options are usually wrong in a small way: they use words from the passage but change the meaning, they say "always" when the passage says "often", or they are true but don't answer the question.

The correct option paraphrases what the passage says. If any part of an option is unsupported, reject it.

Purpose questions

"Why does the writer mention X?" asks about function: to give an example, to show a contrast, to support a claim, to criticise an idea. Read the sentence before and after X to see what job it does.

Testing the options

Passage: "Bees can be trained to recognise some human faces, although their accuracy falls when faces are shown upside down."

Q: What did the research find? A) Bees recognise all faces. B) Bees can learn to recognise certain faces. C) Bees prefer upside-down faces.

Answer: B. A is too extreme ("all"); C is unsupported.
