Matching information to paragraphs

Find which paragraph contains a detail. Unlike headings, the answer is a small piece of information, and letters can repeat.

20 minutesIntermediateLesson 6 of 8
বাংলায় সারাংশ (Bangla summary)

By the end of this lesson you can

  • Turn each statement into a search target
  • Use the passage map from skimming
  • Remember that a paragraph can be used more than once

What you are looking for

Statements describe the type of information: "an example of…", "a reason why…", "a comparison between…", "a prediction about…". Underline that type word as well as the topic.

The detail may be one sentence in the middle of a paragraph, so the paragraph's main idea will not always help. These questions are not in passage order.

Work smart

Do these questions after the other question types for the same passage. By then you have read most of the text and may remember where details are.

Check the instructions: "You may use any letter more than once" means some paragraphs contain two answers and some contain none.

A statement and its match

Statement: a reference to the cost of a failed project

Paragraph D: "…The first attempt, abandoned in 1998, had already consumed some $40 million…"
