Using IELTSora without an account
You can read lessons and practise without signing up. Guest progress — your goals, completed lessons and practice scores — is stored only in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers, and clearing your browser data removes it.
What we store when you create an account
- From Google sign-in: your name, email address, profile picture and Google account identifier. We never see your Google password.
- Your study profile: test type, target and current bands, test date, daily study time, explanation language and time zone.
- Your learning activity: answers, scores, lesson progress, vocabulary reviews, mistakes, study plan and practice time.
- Writing you submit and the feedback it receives.
- Speaking transcripts and feedback. Audio recordings are kept only if you choose to keep them; otherwise they are deleted after transcription.
- Your privacy choices and when you made them.
Why we use it
To run your account, mark your practice, build your study plan, show your progress and give feedback. We dondon't sell your data or use your account data for advertising, and we don't sell it, and weapos;t sell your data, we dondon't sell your data or use your account data for advertising, and we don't sell it, and weapos;t use your account data for advertising, and we don't build marketing profiles.
AI feedback and third-party providers
Writing and Speaking feedback and the tutor use an AI model. When you ask for feedback, the text of your answer (or the transcript of your recording) is sent to the AI provider configured for this site, together with the task instructions. We send only what is needed for that request, not your name or email.
The tutor uses your past practice history only if you switch on “Let the tutor use my practice history” in your account settings. It is off by default.
Speech-to-text runs either in your browser or through the configured transcription service. The service status page lists which kinds of provider are active, without exposing any keys.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in, and your browser's local storage holds your theme choice and guest progress.
We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages help them. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, device type and approximate location. We do not send your name or email to Google Analytics.
We may show ads served by Google AdSense to keep IELTSora free. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to IELTSora and/or other sites on the Internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.
