About IELTSora
What we believe
- Method beats volume. Each question type is taught as a technique before you practise it.
- Scores should be honest. Anything that isn't objectively marked is labelled an estimate.
- Mistakes are the curriculum. Every error you make comes back for review until you stop making it.
- A missed day is not a failure. Plans adapt; streaks don't punish.
How it stays free
Most of IELTSora — lessons, Reading and Listening practice, mock exams, vocabulary, the study planner and your progress — runs without AI, so it costs little to serve and is unlimited. Writing and Speaking feedback and the tutor use AI models, which cost money per request, so each learner has a fair daily allowance. We publish capacity on the service status page rather than hiding it behind a paywall.
How practice is marked
Reading and Listening answers are checked by code against an answer key with explicit rules for spelling, plurals and word limits, then converted to a band using a typical conversion table. Writing feedback follows the four public criteria — Task Achievement or Task Response, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy — and points to evidence in your own text. Speaking feedback does the same for Fluency and Coherence, Lexical Resource, Grammatical Range and Accuracy, and Pronunciation, and says plainly when something can't be judged from the evidence.
