About 230 words, roughly two minutes spoken. Use it for ideas and language, not to memorise: examiners notice rehearsed answers.
I'd like to talk about mobile financial services, the kind of system where you can send and receive money using a basic mobile phone, which in Bangladesh is mainly known through bKash and Nagad.
These services became common around 2011 and 2012. Before that, if a garment worker in Dhaka wanted to send money to her parents in a village, she had to travel home, give it to someone she trusted, or use expensive and slow informal methods.
The idea is very simple. You register with your national ID and phone number, and your phone becomes a kind of wallet. You can deposit cash at a local agent, usually a small shop, and then send it to anyone with a phone in seconds. Now people use it for everything: paying university fees, electricity bills, shopping and even paying rickshaw drivers.
The impact has been huge, especially for people who never had bank accounts. Workers can support their families instantly and safely. During the pandemic the government used it to pay emergency support directly to poor families, which reduced corruption. It has also given many women more financial independence, because they can control their own money.
Of course there are problems, such as phone scams, so people need better digital education. But overall, I think a small, cheap invention like this has changed ordinary lives more than many expensive, high-tech inventions.
