20 minutesIntermediateLesson 5 of 9
বাংলায় সারাংশ (Bangla summary)

By the end of this lesson you can

  • Check that every part of the question is answered
  • Keep one clear position throughout
  • Extend ideas with because, for example and as a result

What examiners look for

Task Response asks three things: Did you answer all parts of the question? Is your position clear throughout? Are your main ideas extended and supported, rather than just listed?

A common reason for Band 6 instead of 7 is ideas that are relevant but not developed: one sentence per idea with no explanation.

Develop each idea

Use a simple chain: point → explanation → example → result. "Remote work saves time. Without a commute, employees gain an hour or more each day. A worker in a large city might spend that time with family instead. As a result, many report higher job satisfaction."

Listed versus developed

Listed: Free public transport reduces traffic, pollution and costs. It also helps poor people.

Developed: Free public transport would persuade many drivers to leave their cars at home, because cost is one of the main reasons people avoid buses. In cities where fares have been removed, car journeys have often fallen, which means less congestion at peak times.

The developed version explains why and gives a consequence, so the reader is convinced, not just informed.
