Predicting answers before you listen

Read the gap, decide what kind of word fits, and listen for it. Prediction turns a fast recording into a list of targets.

15 minutesFoundationLesson 2 of 7
বাংলায় সারাংশ (Bangla summary)

শূন্যস্থানে কোন ধরনের শব্দ বসবে আগে থেকে অনুমান করুন; তারপর শুনুন।

By the end of this lesson you can

  • Predict the grammar and meaning of a missing word
  • Underline key words that will signal the answer
  • Spot when a question has already passed

Ask two questions about every gap

First: what kind of word fits grammatically? After "a" you need a singular noun or an adjective + noun; after "costs £" you need a number.

Second: what kind of meaning is likely? In "Meeting point: outside the ___" the answer is a place, such as "library" or "main entrance".

Predicting a form

Name: Sarah ___ → a surname, probably spelled out

Date of arrival: ___ June → a number

Room type: ___ → single, double, twin…

Price per night: £___ → a number

Once you know you are listening for a number, a name or a room type, you can ignore everything else.
