Using IELTSora without an account
You can read lessons and practise without signing up. Guest progress — your goals, completed lessons and practice scores — is stored only in your browser's local storage. It never reaches our servers, and clearing your browser data removes it.
What we store when you create an account
- Your email address and a securely hashed password (or your Google account identifier if you use Google sign-in).
- Your study profile: test type, target and current bands, test date, daily study time, explanation language and time zone.
- Your learning activity: answers, scores, lesson progress, vocabulary reviews, mistakes, study plan and practice time.
- Writing you submit and the feedback it receives.
- Speaking transcripts and feedback. Audio recordings are kept only if you choose to keep them; otherwise they are deleted after transcription.
- Your privacy choices and when you made them.
Why we use it
To run your account, mark your practice, build your study plan, show your progress and give feedback. We don't use your data for advertising, we don't sell it, and we don't build marketing profiles.
AI feedback and third-party providers
Writing and Speaking feedback and the tutor use an AI model. When you ask for feedback, the text of your answer (or the transcript of your recording) is sent to the AI provider configured for this site, together with the task instructions. We send only what is needed for that request, not your name or email.
The tutor uses your past practice history only if you switch on “Let the tutor use my practice history” in your account settings. It is off by default.
Speech-to-text runs either in your browser or through the configured transcription service. The service status page lists which kinds of provider are active, without exposing any keys.
Cookies and local storage
We use strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in. Your browser's local storage holds your theme choice and guest progress. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Anonymous usage statistics are collected only if you opt in.
How long we keep it
- Account data: until you delete your account.
- Speaking audio you chose not to keep: deleted after transcription.
- Messages sent through the contact form: up to 12 months.
- Security and audit logs of administrative changes: up to 12 months.
Your choices and rights
- Download everything we store about you from Account and privacy.
- Correct your profile at any time.
- Delete your account. Deletion removes your profile, practice history, writing, transcripts and plan.
- Withdraw optional consent (tutor history, analytics, email reminders) in your settings.
Depending on where you live you may have further rights, such as to object to processing or to complain to a data protection authority. Contact us to exercise them.
Younger learners
IELTSora is designed for learners preparing for an adult English test. If you are under 16, ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects how your data is used, we'll tell you in the app before the change applies.
