Speed and time management in Reading

Sixty minutes, three passages, forty questions. A simple time plan and what to do when a question takes too long.

15 minutesFoundationLesson 2 of 8
বাংলায় সারাংশ (Bangla summary)

৬০ মিনিট, তিনটি passage, ৪০টি প্রশ্ন। একটি সহজ সময়-পরিকল্পনা এবং আটকে গেলে কী করবেন।

By the end of this lesson you can

  • Plan about 17, 20 and 23 minutes for the three passages
  • Know when to guess and move on
  • Remember there is no extra transfer time

A time plan

Passages get harder, so give them more time: about 17 minutes for Passage 1, 20 for Passage 2 and 23 for Passage 3. Write the clock times at the top of your paper when the test starts.

Unlike Listening, Reading has no extra time to copy answers. On paper, write answers on the answer sheet as you go.

When to move on

If one question has taken more than about two minutes, make your best guess, mark it, and move on. Each question is worth the same one mark, and the next question is often easier.

Never leave a blank. There is no penalty for a wrong answer.
